Blood Donation Campaign

Venue: Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus)

Time: 0830 – 1130

Give Blood, Give Live

You are eligible to donate if,

  • You are in good health.
  • You are between 18-60 years of age
  • Your weight is above 47kg (ladies) 50kg (men).
  • You have more than 5 hours sleep.
  • You are free from any medical problems e.g. high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, operation <>
  • You have not taken any medication recently.
  • You have taken a light meal before donating blood.
  • You are not involved in any of the following activities:
    • Homosexual relationship.
    • Bisexual relationship.
    • Multiple sexual partners.
    • You have sexual contact with those mentioned above.
    • Drug abuse.
  • Your last whole blood donation is more than 3 months ago.
  • You have not consumed alcohol within the last 24 hours.
  • You have no dental extraction within the last 24 hours.
  • You have not taken any immunization within the last 3 weeks.
  • You do not have fever, cough, flu, sore throat, eye infection for the passed 1 week,
  • For lady donors:
    • You are not pregnant.
    • You are not taking contraceptive / hormone pills.
    • You are not breast feeding.
    • You have not delivered less than a year.
    • You are not menstruating.
  • You have not received any letter or phone call from the Blood Bank regarding the result of your last donation.


Light refreshment will be provided to donors.

Did you know…

v Every three seconds someone needs blood.

v Each whole blood donation can help as many as three people. One unit is divided into three parts: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

v Any person above 18 years of age and over 45 kgs. in weight can donate blood once in three months.

v A normal adult has five to six liters of blood in his/her body of which only 300ml is used during blood donation. This blood is replaced by your body within 24 to 48 hours!

v No special diet, rest or medicine is required after blood donation.

v Donating blood is a safe process. A sterile needle is used only once for each donor and then discarded.

v You cannot get AIDS or any other infectious disease by donating blood.

v Giving blood will not decrease your strength.
